On Tuesday, March 21st, Cayman will join with countries around the world to show our support for people with Down syndrome. By simply wearing mismatched or colorful socks, you can make a diffence and promote awareness for our Down syndrome community in the Cayman Islands.
Participants are asked to be creative and have fun by posting a “sock selfie” on our facebook page: Cayman Islands World Down Syndrome Day.

Following on last year’s success of over CI$19,000.00 raised, we are specifically asking for organizations and individuals to consider a donation of any amount to Down Syndrome Support Team of Specical Needs Foundation of Cayman. Thanks to the generous support of our donors in 2016, we were able to use our funds towards offering hope and encouragment to families, providing therapy opportunities from both local and overeas providers, providing support to schools for teaching about special needs and empathy (a National Curriculum standard), and giving a voice to the Down sydnrome community in Cayman through various media.
In our local primary schools, a lesson plan on empathy for those with special needs will once again be distribubted, giving teachers a ready made list of ideas for art, drama, and writing. Our goal for students does not include fundraising, but to create awareness and promote empathy. If you would like more details or a copy of the lesson plan, please contact us today.

The 3rd Walk in Her Shoes will take place on the 8th of March in Camana Bay, all proceeds raised will help support the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre. The Cayman Islands Crisis Centre (CICC) is a locally run charitable organization that was established in early 2003.  It is the only safe haven for abused women and their children in the Cayman Islands and largely relies on the community for financial support.

It’s not easy walking in these shoes, but it’s fun and it gets the community to talk about and raise awareness of something that’s really difficult to talk about: gender relations and violence against women.  We hope to raise awareness, funds, and laughter.
